Victorians Saving More With 20% Off Rego
Victorians are set to save hundreds of dollars as the State Government delivers 20 per cent off vehicle registration and half-price public transport fares to help ease household cost-of-living pressures.
Within 48 hours of opening, more than one million Victorians have applied for 20 per cent off their rego.
The 20 per cent registration rebate became available on June 1, while half-price public transport fares are in effect until January 1, 2027.
For motorists, the registration rebate means:
• Drivers with one car can receive up to $186 back.
• Families with two cars can receive up to $372 back.
The rebate applies to light vehicles for personal use, including cars, utes, motorbikes and other vehicles under 4.5 tonnes, where registration was paid between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026.
Eligible Victorians can claim rebates for up to two vehicles in their name and will receive the full rebate regardless of whether registration was paid annually or by instalments.
Applications can be made through the Service Victoria app or website and close on July 31, 2026. Most payments will be made by direct bank transfer within 30 days.
Minister for Government Services Ingrid Stitt said more than one million Victorians had already claimed the rebate.
“I’m thrilled that over one million Victorians have already claimed 20 per cent off their rego,” Ms Stitt said.
“If you haven’t yet – it takes minutes.”
Half Price Public Transport
At the same time, public transport users are benefiting from half-price fares across Victoria.
A full daily fare now costs $5.70 instead of $11.40, allowing commuters to travel anywhere in the state for half the usual price. A regular commuter could save more than $850 between now and January 1, 2027.
Passengers do not need to complete any forms to receive the discount, with reduced fares automatically applied when they touch on.
Public transport will remain permanently free for children under 18 and eligible special pass holders.
