More than 50 people attended the North Central LLEN’s Annual General Meeting last week via the digital media platform ZOOM.
Hosted by NCLLEN chairperson, Ellen White, the meeting included all of the usual AGM elements – reports, adoption of financial statements, and appointment of an auditor for the coming 12 months, but chose to focus on the organisation’s achievements during 2019 with the release of its Annual Report in E‐Book mode, and the production of a short video highlighting these.
Ms White said one of the main drivers of the LLEN’s work is the young people themselves.
“It is satisfying to know that we are contributing to their growth, their learning, their confidence, and their success, which is different for each person,” she said.
“Whether it is working with the families of very young children, teaching teenagers about gender equity, or supporting young people to obtain their driving licence (a much needed item in country Victoria), our range of programs and services try to reach every child and family in the area,” she said.
Executive Officer Jane Hosking, thanked the LLEN’s many stakeholders and supporters, saying it was a pleasure to work alongside them to champion, our amazing north central children and young people.
“In order to facilitate best outcomes for all children and young people we need to remember that sadly they don’t all begin with a level playing field,” she said.
“We endeavour every day to work with our valued partners to facilitate the addressing of inequity and vulnerability in its many forms so that all children and young people can thrive in education, work and life.
“In 2019 we were able to work with nearly 400 students in Years 9 to 12 to develop individual career pathway plans, 312 young people participated in our ENGAGE activities, 55 children and young adults participated in mentoring activities, and more than 80 businesses worked with us to provide meaningful training opportunities and exposure to the world of work.
“We collaborated with 385 children and young people to ensure our programs were designed to meet their needs, as well as working in partnership with 15 schools, 5 pre‐ schools, 6 playgroups, 7 health care groups, 2 philanthropic organisations, 5 local governments and 3 state government departments to implement our programs and initiatives.”
Ms Hosking finished her report by quoting Nelson Mandela: “History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday life of children”.
The North Central LLEN creates opportunities for all children and young people to be on their way to success in education, work and life.
It actively works with government, councils, business, schools, industry and the community to enable all children and young people to actively participate in education, training, and the community so they are confident, capable, and on their way to success in life.
