More Murals for Donald
• Heesco demonstrated just how quickly he can translate a plan into painting, putting up an historic image on the wall of the Fraser building on Donald’s Main Street.

Melbourne street artist Heesco has once again brought his unmistakable creative energy to Donald, unveiling not one but two striking new murals that are already breathing fresh life into the town’s landscape.

With his remarkable eye for detail and storytelling through art, Heesco continues to transform everyday spaces into vibrant landmarks worth celebrating.

These latest additions were proudly funded by the Donald B’n’S and thoughtfully organised by Yvonne Brown of Donald 2000, whose passion for enriching the town shines through in her dedication to transforming the town into a living and vibrant work of art.

Over the course of a fortnight, the murals came to life – each one adding colour, character, and a renewed sense of pride to the community. More than just visual enhancements, they are part of Yvonne’s ongoing vision to weave Donald’s history and identity into its streets, creating a living gallery for locals and visitors alike.

The Steam Train
One of the standout pieces now graces the Dunstan Wool building, a magnificent mural depicting a train. Its placement is nothing short of perfect, sitting alongside both the train museum and the railway tracks, tying together Donald’s rich transport heritage with bold contemporary artistry. The second mural takes pride of place along the town’s main street, ensuring it captures the attention of all who pass through and adding a lively focal point to the heart of Donald.

Speaking with Yvonne, her enthusiasm for the project was unmistakable. She shared her hopes of continuing this artistic journey, with plans to introduce even more murals in the future. While funding remains the greatest challenge, as it often does with community projects, she expressed deep gratitude to the Donald B’n’S for making this latest instalment possible. With continued support, her vision of celebrating Donald’s history through art is set to grow even further.
These new works build beautifully on Heesco’s previous contribution in 2024, when he completed a well-loved mural at the IGA carpark featuring local identity Georgie Ah Ling. Together, these pieces are helping to shape a distinctive artistic identity for the town.

The timing couldn’t be better. With the recent completion of Birchip’s silo art ahead of the Easter long weekend, the region is quickly becoming a must-visit destination for art lovers. Visitors are now drawn to explore not just one, but multiple towns across Buloke Shire, each offering its own unique blend of creativity and local storytelling.

All in all, it’s a moment worth celebrating, Donald is not just adding murals, it’s building a legacy of art, history, and community spirit that will be admired for years to come.

All aboard! The first of the two murals arrived quickly at its stop, the Dunstan Wool building.
