Lions Recognise Long Service

Donald Lions Club conducted its annual changeover dinner at the Johnson Goodwin Village last Thursday evening, with the service of three of the club’s longest serving members, Robin Letts, Wally Goldsbury and Stewart Hollis, being recognised.

Joining club members were District 201-v1-4’s second vice District Governor, Gita Khatri, and her partner Darren, and Goodwin Village CEO, Anthony Hogan.

Following a delicious meal prepared by staff, club members received an informative presentation of Gita, outlining her aspirations for Lions Clubs within her District.

Among Gita’s duties on the night was investing Donald Lions Club’s newest member, Helen Hilis.

Club treasurer, Shane O’Shea, presented a lengthy annual report, which showed the club had been very active within the community, and contributing in excess of $9,500 in donations and support for other local projects.

The treasurer indicated income had been significantly reduced following reduced involvement in the annual BnS Ball catering.

Lion Shane was called upon to make presentations to Lion Robin Letts (a Charter member) and Wally Goldsbury, who have been made honourary Life Members of the club.

Both are currently not enjoying the best of health, but maintain a strong interest in club activities, Robin’s unbroken involvement beginning in August 1957, and Wally’s in June 1968.

Lion Stewart Hollis, who joined in 1979, has decided not to continue his active service, and was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation, wife Joyce Hollis also being recognised for her great support over the years.

Leaders Returned
The induction of office bears for the coming year, conducted by seond vice District Governor Gita, saw president Michael Rayne, past president Alan Borg, secretary Colleen Harmer, treasurer Shane O’Shea and membership chairman Graeme Harris returned. They have been joined by one year director Sheree Braybrook and 2 year director Kieren White.
