The Mt. Wycheproof community is buzzing with excitement as preparations continue for the upcoming Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour (LMCT) visit on Friday, August 30.
Last week, MP, Dr. Anne Webster, Member for Mallee, was briefed on planning activities scheduled, alongside some of the activations being refined to celebrate this prestigious event. From Broadway decorations to engaging site visits and a cumulative evening event at the Town Hall, the Mt. Wycheproof community is pulling out all the stops to make this a memorable occasion for everyone.
Anne stopped in at Bakery on Broadway as she toured the Mallee, consulting and collaborating with towns across Buloke. She was eager to make herself available to connect with locals and stay well informed on current community issues, priorities and upcoming significant events such as the LMCT and the Mt. Wycheproof and District Racing Club’s Cup Day “Derby Day in the Country”.
Anne, alongside her colleagues, is a significant supporter of the thoroughbred racing industry across rural communities.
She was advised that the tour will welcome “The People’s Cup” with a focus on:
- Community Gatherings and Engagement – a series of fun-filled events where all can come together to celebrate “The Cup” at local community hubs and historic landmarks.
- Interactive Displays – opportunities to get up close and personal with the Lexus Melbourne Cup trophy and learn about its rich history at a local level.
- Photo Opportunities – capture the magic with special photo booth backdrops alongside “The Cup”.
- Giveaways – win some amazing prizes ahead of the Spring Racing Carnival in the Country.
Local level event volunteer Jackie Noonan highlighted to Anne, “We can't wait to see our community come alive with the spirit of ‘The People’s Cup’, whilst also profiling the significance of our community charity partner the Wycheproof Community Resource Centre.
“The Cup” visit will further provide the ideal platform to re-launch our local Cup Day with the significant prominence and acclaim it deserves.’’
A huge thank you to Anne for her enthusiasm relative to tour event planning. Local print media and social platforms will continue to provide schedule announcements over the forthcoming weeks.
