“And the Bird Flew Away”

What a truly special day at the Bridgewater Hotel for the launch of Sue McLean’s book, “And the Bird Flew Away”.

Set against the gentle flow of the Loddon River, the Garden Bar came alive, framed by a stunning line of magnificent Australian gum trees, a fitting reminder of the deep connection to land and landscape so beautifully captured in Sue’s work.
The atmosphere was warm and vibrant as VIPs, family, friends and guests gathered, all eager to celebrate this remarkable tribute to the Cathcart and Haeusler families of Sea Lake and beyond. Conversations buzzed with anticipation until the guest speaker had everyone completely captivated. You could’ve heard a pin drop. The MC, Kerry Anderson, kept things moving seamlessly, and Sue, ever the generous host, made sure no one went without a beautiful spread of food that just kept coming.

After the formalities, the room filled once again with lively chatter, praise for Sue’s achievement, admiration for the sheer scale of her work, and of course the big question: Will there be a second book?

What a day! Book sales soared, with many grabbing extra copies to share with loved ones, a true testament to the impact of Sue’s story.
