Wycheproof Auxiliary in Action
The Friends of EWHS Wycheproof Campus continue to work to raise funds for equipment for their local Health Service.
The Friends, or Hospital Ladies Auxiliary as they were previously known, have held a number of events over the past six months. These events have included catering at the kiosk for sheep sales at the Wycheproof Saleyards, catering in the dining room and takeaway services at the Mt Wycheproof and District Races, catering for a Senior Citizens Luncheon, and providing afternoon tea at the recent ANZAC Day event in Wycheproof.
The group purchased and arranged installation of a bench seat outside the hospital front door. The seat allows inpatients to sit outside in the shade and enjoy the fresh air. A plaque has been installed in memory of Mrs. Beryl Dillon, who propagated plants that were sold through the Wycheproof Op Shop, with funds raised contributing towards the seat. It has since become a popular place to sit.
They have recently purchased a Doppler machine, which measures blood flow through blood vessels. The group has also funded the purchase of wireless modules for chair sensors and beds, replacing leads that could pose trip hazards.
The April meeting of the Auxiliary marked a return to meetings at the Wycheproof Campus Board Room. During COVID, the Auxiliary met at the Royal Mail Hotel, and appreciation is extended to Terry Mathieson for allowing the group to meet there. With the return to the Wycheproof Campus, members tried out the new coffee machine installed in the residents’ dining room, which was well received by those who participated.
The main discussion of the meeting was the upcoming fundraiser: the Mother’s Day Bouquet stall. The group is now calling on community members to donate flowers for this activity. Greenery for the bouquets would also be greatly appreciated.
Those wishing to assist are invited to visit 289 Broadway from 9 a.m. on May 7, to help prepare. On May 8, members will be selling bouquets and raffle tickets outside the IGA, with the raffle to be drawn at the end of the day.
