Bridie Casey.
The McClelland family has much pleasure in announcing that Birchip’s Bridie Casey is the 2024 winner of the Warrick McClelland Memorial Scholarship, which will provide support for her agricultural education in each year of her chosen course.
Bridie, an outstanding applicant, sees farming to be more than a job, but a “lifestyle and a passion”, one which inspires her to push herself to be someone who makes an impact and creates change.
She sees her role as one which will “help future generations to carry on and allow many more centuries to come in living on our preserved planet.”
In undertaking an agribusiness course at Latrobe University, Bendigo, she hopes to gain understanding of the many aspects of agriculture and access to its broad range of opportunities.
Apart from having wide experience in practical farming, Bridie has been an active participant in a range of sports including hockey, cricket and cross country running. She was a member of the School Board and the School Council and assisted with Breakfast Club, catering and providing Meals on Wheels.
Passion
The Scholarship was established to celebrate Warrick’s passion for agriculture and offer a young person support in pursuing tertiary education in the field. It is offered every year to students able to demonstrate a connection with the Southern Mallee (Buloke, Yarriambiack, Gannawarra and Loddon shires or the Swan Hill City Council) and who have completed Year 12.
The award is intended to further the growth of agriculture in general; candidates are assessed on the basis of their interest in and potential to contribute to its development, regardless of their personal circumstances.
Interested students able to demonstrate a connection with the southern Mallee (Buloke, Yarriambiack, Gannawarra and Loddon shires or the Swan Hill Rural City Council) should contact their Careers advisers at the relevant schools.
