Charlton’s Rex Theatre will re-open on Saturday night, February 6, at 8 p.m., with the first of three screenings of “The Dry” (MA15+, 117 mins.), the Australian movie based on author, Jane Harper’s multi-award winning novel.
The story centres on Federal Agent, Aaron Falk who, after an absence of twenty years, returns to his drought-stricken home town to investigate an apparent murder-suicide committed by his childhood friend, Luke Hadler. But when Aaron’s investigation opens a decades-old wound — the unsolved death of 16-year-old Ellie Deacon — Aaron must struggle to prove not only Luke's innocence but also his own.
Starring Eric Bana, the movie has received many accolades, and having been filmed so close to this region holds even greater interest for our local audiences.
With Fr. Eugene McKinnon also making an appearance on the big screen, the home-grown connection is even more pronounced.
The Rex is pleased to be opening its doors again, especially with such a high profile movie to re-start what is sure to be a strong movie year ahead.
Patrons attending the Rex are encouraged to maintain all the Covid-safe practices of hand sanitising, observing social distancing, and not attending if feeling unwell.
The message is to arrive early to secure a seat, with cashless payment the preferred option.
“The Dry” screens: Saturday, February 6, 8 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 9, 8 p.m..
