Community groups across Victoria are being recognised for preserving, recording and sharing their community’s local history.

Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp, this week congratulated Nullawil Historical Society Inc. for receiving funding as part of the Victorian Government’s Local History Grants Program.

Nullawil Historical Society Inc. received $5,035 to go towards their efforts in shining the spotlight on the region’s rich and diverse history.

Auchmore Museum
The project – Auchmore Museum Collection Archiving – will see the preservation of photographic materials and the digitisation of important local records, including family history, local housing, schooling and businesses.

The collection will be saved online via Victoria Collections, and on an external hard drive. The Society will purchase archive hardware to create visual displays and exhibitions.

Nullawil Historical Society Inc is among 53 community groups across Victoria sharing in $350,000 as part of the 2020 round of Local History Grants – including Landcare, Mildura Rural City Council, Kooloonong Natya Landcare Group and Numurkah & District Historical Society Inc.

A full list of recipients is available at prov.vic.gov.au

Good Hands
“Our local history is in good hands with community groups like Nullawil Historical Society Inc working hard to ensure stories and artefacts of our past are not forgotten,” said Mr Gepp.

“Congratulations to all the volunteers and staff involved in the fantastic work of preserving our local history not only in the Mallee but also right across the Victoria.”
