(From Virginia Mosk, “Keep Victoria Beautiful”)
I am reaching out again this year for help in recommending nominees for the Keep Victoria Beautiful annual Sustainable Communities — Tidy Towns Awards.

These awards go to those wonderful individuals, groups, educational institutions, businesses and councils that have gone above and beyond in making a difference to their rural and regional communities.

Categories
While there are 12 different awards categories this year, I am specifically looking for recommendations in:

  • Young Legends category. This recognises people 25 and younger who are kicking goals – be it on the environmental, social inclusion, wellbeing, litter reduction, heritage protection, fund-raising, etc fronts.
  • Indigenous Culture category. This goes to individuals/groups/businesses/councils whose initiative celebrates the rich diverse culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

That said, please feel free to put forward recommendations from other categories.

The categories are:  Environment, Indigenous Culture, Young Legends, Education, Energy, Litter, Waste, Heritage & Culture, Community, Social Well-being and I don't know where I fit in!

Given that the majority of people are modest about their achievements, we find that reaching out and inviting them to nominate is often the best approach. If you could provide us with recommendations, we are more than happy to reach out or you may prefer to do so yourselves.

The Sustainable Communities – Tidy Towns’ awards have been going since 1983. Over the years the awards moved beyond simply rewarding towns for their tidiness, but now focus on recognising and celebrating grassroots initiatives and positive actions taken by communities and individuals.
