Mandy Claims Twentieth Donald Golf Title
Donald Golf Club’s ladies’ champions for 2020, left to right, Jenny Lieshman (“C” grade), Mandy Male (“A” grade) and Beris Jones (“B” grade).

Down the Middle?

The fifteen ladies who competed in the fourth and final round of the Club Championships on Wednesday could be forgiven for thinking they were in the middle of an Agatha Christie murder mystery.

The fog was so thick they could scarcely see the ball, let alone the group in front of them.

However, the only murder was carried out by Mandy Male, who once again murdered the course with a fine 82 to win the Club Championship.
Her best three scores were 79, 78 and 82.

Congratulations Mandy on your 20th Championship – a brilliant effort.

Winner of the “B” grade championship was Beris Jones, with scores of 97, 96 and 100. Congratulations, Beris.

Winner in “C” grade was the club’s newest golfer, Jenny Leishman, with an excellent 95, 97 and 100.
Jenny also won the Chic Morgan Memorial for the three best nett scores over the championships – 65, 70 and 74. Well done, Jenny.
Winner of the day’s event and the Silver Spoon was Jenni Campbell, with a 72 nett. Runner-up was Margot Paynter, with 74 nett, on a countback from Jenny Leishman, who claimed the second runner-up prize and the putting award with 23 putts.

Nearest the pin on Donald Auto Electrical’s 3rd. was Debbie Burton; Weir’s 7th., Mandy Male; Donald Mechanical & Tyre’s 14th., Kerry Murphy; and on the Community Bank’s 16th., Margot Paynter, and I heard she got her birdie as well.

Next week is a fourball Stableford Aggregate.
Monday Golf

Two ladies played nine holes on Monday and four others played 6 holes after the working bee.
They claimed they were so tired after cleaning that they could only manage six. Thanks to those girls. The club house is now sparkling.
Highlights and Lowlights

  • It was good to see our Life Member Joan Beckham joining us for afternoon tea.  Joan also donated the award for the day’s event. Thank you, Joan. You are a great supporter of our club.
  • Brenda Brennan was so relieved to finish her round, that she locked her car keys and the cart shed keys in the shed. The walk back to the clubhouse nearly finished her!
  • Lindy Morgan’s ball ended up in the dam for the first time in twenty years, she says.
  • Kerry Murphy arrived at golf without her clubs. Was that the first time in twenty years too, Kerry?
  • Apparently the only players to have three putted were the “A” graders!
  • The Pig should have had a big feed this week.
  • It was great to be able to use the clubhouse for the first time this year, and enjoy the afternoon tea while practising social distancing.
