Charlton Shire Hall was the venue for the annual miniature war gaming weekend known as Mallee Melee where, to commemorate the eightieth anniversary of D-Day, a large group of enthusiastic players recreated the momentous events of June 6, 1944.
With gamers from across Victoria and as far away as Canberra, six terrain filled tables were the battlegrounds, and a vast array of historical vehicles and minutely detailed miniature soldiers from the period recreated battles from those critical days.
Visitors to the event across the weekend were left amazed at the historical accuracy of what was presented and the details of the figures.
The Allied airborne landings behind enemy lines and the brutal beach landings against fortified positions were fought out over two days, where having a good time showcasing the hobby was more important to those participating than winning. With many regulars returning for their fourth year, this event is a great benefit to local hospitality and retail outlets, as well as the support the weekend gives in donations to the work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Thanks go to Buloke Shire and the Charlton Neighbourhood House for their continued most welcomed support of this event.
Planning is already in the initial stages for Mallee Melee 5 with what will definitely be the biggest event to date with a large scale Napoleonic game to be featured.
