Lachy Foott Celebrates 250-Game Milestone

Birchip-Watchem stalwart Lachy Foott celebrated his 250th open-age football game on Saturday, marking the milestone in a convincing win over Calder United Lions.

Football longevity runs in the Foott family, with Lachy following in the footsteps of his father Mick, who played an extraordinary 382 games across Watchem-Corack and Birchip-Watchem.

Lachy began his career as a Birchip-Watchem junior and progressed through the ranks to senior football. In addition to his 250 senior games with the Bulls, he also accumulated senior appearances during two stints away from the club.

His time away included premiership success with Swan Hill in 2011, before returning to Birchip-Watchem, where he took on the role of senior coach in 2013. Lachy continued his senior coaching career at Beulah the following year, sharing the role with Gareth Hose in 2014.

Foott again returned to his home club and was a member of Birchip-Watchem’s drought- breaking 2022 senior premiership team. In the come-from-behind win, Lachy was an integral motivator of the team that eventually claimed the club’s first senior flag in 21 years.

His contribution to the club has extended well beyond playing, with Lachy also serving as a committee member and continuing to play an active role around the club.

Reaching 250 open-age games was fitting recognition of his durability, dedication and commitment to maintaining his fitness over a lengthy career. He remains one of the club’s most consistent trainers and a vocal presence on the field and at training, where he can be heard all over town encouraging and driving his teammates.

Saturday’s convincing victory over Calder United provided a fitting way to celebrate the milestone, but Lachy’s focus now turns to repeating the feat against the Lions in this week’s semi-final showdown as he continues his pursuit of another elusive Bulls premiership.
