Kokoro to Win “Wyche” Cup

The race meeting that brings not only racing fans, family friends and people who just want to say, “I have been to ‘Wyche’ races” is on again.

Derby Day in the Country as it is promoted, is on the “bucket list” of every racing fan from all parts of Victoria. The feature race is the Elders Mt Wycheproof Cup of $40,000 in prize money.

Trainer Austy Coffey has a very good winning strike rate in this race, winning 3 of the last 6 times it has been run.

As usual the club’s promotion of this meeting will see a huge marquee village, umbrella area and plenty of seating for the big crowd expected on course.

The club received 303 nominations. The first race is at 1.23 p.m. with a 7 race card. the track is rated a good 4 with the running rail in the true position.

The feature race has a full field of 8 runners. Kokomo from the Corstens-Larkin stable at Flemington is the horse to beat. It has strong recent form in metro. class, including a second placing at Flemington.

Dangers are Samurai Star and Maktoob. The same stable should start off the day with Durham Legacy in the first race. 

The other best bet for the day is Emmcee in race 4. Formerly with the Hayes stable, it recently transferred to Austy Coffey and has had two important gear changes. Have a great day and don’t forget sunscreen!

Harness Racing
With spring racing, there is action in all codes. The Charlton Harness Racing Club is holding races next Monday, with a cup event promotion. With a long weekend for some, come along for another good day out.

Melbourne Cup Runners
Over many years there has always been some local interest in “the race that stops a nation”. This year all this has changed with a local jockey, ownership and the community of Donald all involved.

The jockey, Harry Coffey, well known to all, has a goof ride in this year’s cup. The horse is called Onesmoothoperator who won last Friday’s Moonee Valley Gold Cup. Harry is riding in top form, winning the Bendigo Cup on Wednesday.

St. Arnaud identity Damien Drum is involved in the ownership of Torranzino, a last start Geelong Cup winner. Trained by Paul Preusker in Horsham, this will be his third attempt to win this race.

Another ownership in this famous race is the horse Middle Earth, with former Beulah and Birchip identities, Bronc Shannon and Denis O’Connor.

The Donald community is in this year’s Melbourne Cup Tour National Sweep. The town will have the horse which draws barrier 7. The registered charity is Donald Friends and Neighbours and the cash prize is $50K.
