From red dirt to reef, adventurers are gearing up for the iconic Variety Bash!
In 2024 the Variety Bask is hitting the dirt tracks as its colourful convoy travels through places you’ve never heard of, let alone been to, supporting local communities and kids in need along the way.
Often imitated, never bettered, the Variety Bash is Australia's longest running and most iconic charity motoring event.
Each year, the Variety Bash sees hundreds fundraise and hit the road for kids in need. Known for its flare and fanfare, it’s always a sight to behold when the Variety Bash comes to town!
Colourful Convoy
The Variety Bash is typically an 8 - 10 day event that takes participants across the country in a colourful convoy.
The route is always jam-packed with iconic Aussie tourist destinations, offroad adventures and includes stops at schools and small towns to show some love along the way.
In addition to the grants presented en-route, the Variety Bash is welcomed by regional communities as the spending on fuel, food and tourism often results in their biggest trading days of the year. Sometimes, our outrageous crews even out numbers the locals!
Father/Son Combinations
Speaking of locals, three father/son combinations make up the local team “Car 77 – Disco Gold” and you guessed it, the business’ proprietor and car captain Sam Goldsmith and his father James have entered their 1989 NA Fairlane super stretch limo as their unique rally car.
Funds for Kids
The Goldsmiths are joined by team mates John and Seb McConville from Donald Steel, and Melbourne’s Tim and Glen Doreian (absent from the photo), and these six blokes are setting out from Swan Hill on August 16 to raise much needed funds for kids.
Even in a “stretch” it might be a stretch for six fellas sharing such a long journey, but these blokes are keen as beans to raise funds and awareness for the Variety Bash, as well as getting into the spirit of things with their quirky choice in vehicle.
Sponsorship
The Disco Gold team is seeking sponsorship to support their venture, and donations above $500 will earn a logo placement somewhere on the car’s considerable panel space, in the coming week. Smaller amounts are also most welcome with anything above $2 a tax deductible donation.
“The Buloke Shire has 6,500 residents,” said team member and proprietor of Donald Steel, John McConville.
“If everyone donated $10, we’d over-shoot our target in no time and it would really highlight the generosity of the entire shire!”
At the time of going to print, the team had exceeded the standard initial rookie target of $5,000, already raising $7,941 prior to any advertising. Now, “Car 77 – Disco Gold” is aiming for the stars.
Donations can be made to the “Disco Gold Car 77” team at this link https://fundraisevariety.org.au/fundraisers/car77discogold or cash donations to team members prior departure are also most welcome.
There has been a lot of work done to vehicle to ensure it makes the distance, however, if anyone can troubleshoot issues along the way it would be the Goldsmiths and the McConvilles.
No doubt some interesting stories will come from the adventure, so please give generously to this worthy cause.
