Marnoo's Jimmy Duxson is thirteen. St. Arnaud's Tim Spears turns 73 early next year.
That being so, arithmetic tells us they’re all but 60 years apart in age. But when it comes to their cricket, age has nothing to do with it. It’s all about their love of the game.
Both played in Saturday’s round 6 of “A” grade Wimmera Mallee cricket, and both looked very much at home at that level.
Having been a cricketer all his life, and being still involved as a player with age-group teams in Australia and touring overseas, Tim currently “gives back” to the game by coaching under-13, under-15 and under-17 players.
Jimmy is a member of one of Western Victoria’s most notable cricketing families. He’s the son of Ben and Cheryl Duxson, Ben being the current president of the Wimmera Mallee Association.
If there’s a game on at the Marnoo oval, or if Marnoo is playing somewhere else, you can be sure that Jimmy Duxson will be there.
And given his 22 not-out performance on Saturday, in partnership with century-making captain Brylie Cameron, it’s a safe bet that he’ll be keeping “A” grade scorers busy for a very long time to come.
