Led by captain Rylee Smith, North-Central football’s newest senior team takes the field at Donald, for its first-ever game under the title, “Calder United”.
Talk about a football pedigree! As a combination of the former Wycheproof-Narraport and Nullawil sides, there was never a doubt that they would be a force to be reckoned with.
Both have been leading lights with their respective leagues for decades, and on Saturday, as a combined unit, they gave notice that they will be there right to — and through — the business end of the season.
Like the highway after which it was named, the merged and masterful brand new side was a clear winner in this neck of the woods, finishing the day with a massive score of 23.26 (164).
Not to be outdone, however, a team from Sunraysia Highway — Calder’s parallel neighbour, Birchip-Watchem — booted the score of the day, with a total of 30.12 (192)
