PERCY VS GOLIATH Official Trailer (2021)
Everyone loves to see the underdog get up, so this weekend’s movie at the Rex – “Percy Vs. Goliath” (PG 99 minutes) should capture the imagination.
The story is about Percy Schmeiser, a 70-year old, third-generation Canadian farmer, who gets sued by a corporate giant for allegedly using their patented seeds. With little resources to fight a legal battle, Percy joins forces with up-and-coming attorney Jackson Weaver and environmental activist Rebecca Salcau (Christina Ricci) for a monumental case that leads all the way to the Supreme Court.
Starring the impressive Christopher Walken as Percy, the film focuses on the trials and tribulations which Percy and his wife, Louise endure in their battle against the corporate agribusiness giant, Monsanto.
Facing accusations against his supposed farming practice, Percy is driven to speak publicly, and he quickly discovers his situation is not unique. Support starts to flow, along with the realization that this is a matter of global concern.
He hears first-hand the devastating effects of agribusiness while on a speaking tour in India and sees the consequences which have impacted the ordinary farmers.
Through Percy’s determination to continue the fight, Canadian and ultimately American farmers bring changes against the corporate giant, and Percy is free to continue his farming practice.
With a nod to “Erin Brockovich” and the 2009 documentary “David vs Monsanto,” “Percy Vs. Goliath” is loosely based on a 1998 real-life law suit.
“Percy Vs. Goliath” screens: Saturday, August 14, at 8 p.m., Sunday, August 15, at 2 p.m., and Tuesday, August 17, at 8 p.m..
